Description
Detail of one of the ornate old fashioned street lamps that line the embankments along the River Thames, with capsules and part of the London Eye against a lovely pink sunset in the background. Officially opened to the public on 9th March 2000, the Eye (also known as the Millennium Wheel) is now the most popular paid tourist attraction in the UK. The wheel has 32 capsules, each of which weighs 10 tonnes and holds up to 25 people. The whole structure is 443ft (135m) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 394ft (120m); a complete rotation takes around 30 minutes.
