Description
Sajama volcano (6542m / 21,465ft) in western Bolivia is the country's highest peak and rises dramatically above the barren altiplano landscape, an ecosystem known as Central Andean dry puna desert. It lies in Sajama National Park which was the first National Park to be created in Bolivia (in 1942). The tough, spiky grass clumps are ichu grass (Jarava ichu), common across the altiplano.
