Description
The Salar de Surire National Monument is a small, beautiful and remote salt lake at an altitude of 4250m / 13,950ft surrounded by volcanos in the Andes in the far north of Chile. The peak in this image is the Cerro Puquintica (5712m / 18,740ft) volcano on the Bolivian border. The Salar is a Ramsar Wetland Site and also part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO in 1981.
