Description
A view of the west face of Sajama volcano in western Bolivia with the rustic stone tower of Sajama village church in the foreground. Sajama (6542m / 21,465ft) is the country's highest peak and rises dramatically above the barren altiplano landscape. These quaint churches are typical of the Andean altiplano region; research has shown many of them were built on sites sacred to the indigenous people to encourage them to convert to Catholicism.
