Description
The Chequers is one of the most famous historic buildings in Tonbridge, Kent, southeast England and said to be one of the finest examples of a Kentish timber-framed building that still exists today. Situated on the High Street in the centre of the old town, the current building dates from the late 15th century though there has been an inn on the site since possibly as early as 1264. The white painted wooden weatherboarding on the side of the building is typical of the region. In the left background is the gatehouse of Tonbridge castle.
