Description
The chestnut-fronted or severe macaw (Ara severus) is one of the largest of the so called "mini-macaws"; adults are around 45cm / 18in long. They are found in tropical forests in much of northern South America, from Panama south to Brazil and central Bolivia; a feral population is also found in Florida. The name comes from the small chestnut patch on the forehead above the beak, easier to see in some lights than others.
