Description
A local fishing boat passes a rustic harbor on the shore of Taquile Island in the Peruvian part of the Lake Titicaca. Taquile is about a 3 hour boat ride from Puno and inhabited by Quechua speaking people who are effectively self governing for local affairs. Lake Titicaca is said to be the worlds highest navigable lake and is also the 14th largest by volume. It is shared by Peru and Bolivia, covers an area of 8,372 sq km / 3,232 sq miles, measures approx 190 x 80km / 118 x 50 miles and lies at an altitude of 3810m / 12,500ft above sea level.
