Description
The entrance archway of the rustic church in Sajama village in Bolivia's Sajama National Park after an overnight winter snowfall. These quaint stone and mud brick churches are typical of the region; research has shown many of them were built on sites sacred to the indigenous people to encourage them to convert to Catholicism. The stone bird on top of the arch is probably an Andean condor, which was considered a deity by the native people of the Andes. In the background you can just see the volcanos on the nearby Bolivia / Chile border emerging from the thick cloud and fog.
