Description
This black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) seemed to be reading a sign telling fisherman not to gut and clean fish (pescado) and shellfish (marisco) in the fishing docks in Arica in northern Chile! It is a relatively common and widespread species, found worldwide except for Australasia and the Polar regions and seems to be equally at home in freshwater wetlands and coastal regions.
